The Finnish Parliament’s Audit Committee visited Zagreb from April 18-19, 2012 led by Ms. Tuija Brax, former Minister of Justice in Finland until 2011.
During their visit the Committee met their counterparts at the Croatian National Parliament in a series of meetings with the Finance and Central Budget Committee, European Integration Committee and National Council for Monitoring Anti-Corruption Strategy Implementation.
During their visit, the Finnish delegation had the opportunity to learn more about Croatia’s preparation for Accession to the European Union and related ongoing reforms. Together with Croatian counterparts, they also explored potential for future cooperation.
The Finnish delegation was also received by Minister of Justice of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Orsat Miljenić and Director General for European Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, Mr. Hrvoje Marusic. The Audit Committee also met with representatives of Transparency International Croatia.
The principal task of the Audit Committee is to oversee the management of government finances and compliance with the budget. In this task the Committee concentrates on the general state and management of government finances as well as on issues of which the Finnish Parliament ought to be informed. Its tasks also include deliberating various reports on government finances and preparing them for plenary sessions.
